AT LVIV UNIVERSITY SCIENTISTS DISCUSS PLANT ONTOGENESIS

On October 4, 2017 the ceremonial opening and plenary session of the 4th International Conference “Plant Ontogenesis in Natural and Transformed Environments. Physiological, Biochemical and Ecological Aspects” were held in the Assembly Hall of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

More than 100 scientists from leading scientific institutions of Ukraine, Germany, Austria, USA, Czech Republic, Belarus, Poland, Croatia, Slovakia and France applied to take part in the conference.

Vice-Rector for Research, Associate Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Roman Gladyshevskii greeted the participants of the event, spoke about the history and the present of Lviv University and emphasized the topicality of the issues put forward for discussion at the conference. In addition, Mr. Gladyshevskii pointed out that conservation of ecological potential and plant environment is an important problem for Ukraine, in particular in ATO zone in the east, because when hostilities are over, the ecosystem will have to be restored.

Chairperson of the Department of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Distinguished Professor of the University Olha Terek welcomed the participants on behalf of the conference organizers. The Distinguished Professor wished her colleagues fruitful work for the sake of further development of phytophysiology and successful implementation of scientific developments.

Vitaliy Honcharenko, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Biology, emphasized that the scientists of the faculty pay a lot of attention to the problem of preserving the plant environment since with an increase in destructive influence of humankind on nature, identification of the negative impacts which are harmful to the ecosystem and search for the ways of their neutralization are one of the top priorities of world scientific research.

During the conference the participants dealt with theoretical and practical aspects of plant ontogenesis, in particular with integrity of plant organisms and functional regulation of ontogenesis, mechanisms of plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, phytomonitoring, phytoremediation and energy crop cultivation in military-contaminated areas etc.

The 4th International Conference “Plant Ontogenesis in Natural and Transformed Environments” is organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Ukrainian Society of Plant Physiologists, All-Ukrainian Association of Plant Biologists, Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Friends of Lviv University, Inc. (USA) and Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD) in Lviv.
