Cornell and Lviv Universities establish cooperation in the field of biological research

On 24-28 June, a group of American bio-scientists from Cornell University paid a visit to the Department of Plant Physiology and  Ecology at the Faculty of Biology of the Ivan Franko Lviv National University.

This scientific trip was made possible due to a joint Ukrainian-American grant project OISE 16-62755-0/OISE-9531011, which is funded  by CRDF Global (Scientific Supervisor of the grant from the Ukrainian side – Professor Olha Terek, co-supervisor – Associate professor Nataliia Romaniuk, Scientific Supervisor from the American side – Professor Olena Vatamaniuk, co-supervisor – Professor Marc Sorrells, and Professor Murray McBride).

Cornell University is one of the most prestigious in the world (the 17th place in the World University Ranking). The group consisted of a former graduate student of the Department of Plant Physiology and Ecology and today Professor at Cornell University Olena Vatamaniuk, Professor Mark Sorrels, and also aspirants Huajin Sheng and Olena Zavodna.

At Lviv University American researchers took part in the elective consultations concerning the performance of scientific researches and also visited places of a fieldwork in Drohobych region. The summing up of this trip was participation in All Ukrainian Symposium with an International participation “Steady approaches to increase the yield and nutritional value of wheat” held on 27 June 2018 at the Scientific Library of Lviv National University.

This is the first trip of American scientists to the Ivan Franko Lviv National University. As its consequence a tighter cooperation in a scientific and educational sphere with a perspective of conducting a course of lectures for students of the Biology faculty at Ivan Franko University. In the framework of the project implementation, the internship is supposed to be organized for workers of the Lviv University of the Department of Plant Physiology and Ecology at Cornell University.
