About 60 experts, including deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, bankers, heads of credit unions, representatives of academia, participated in a visiting session of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on financial policy and banking, held on 29 January 2016 in the Mirror Hall of Ivan Franko Lviv National University.

University Vice-rector for research and teaching, social affairs and development Marian Lozynskyi greeted the participants of the meeting:

“Our University for the first time in its history is hosting a meeting of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. This is not accidentally; Lviv University is one of the oldest universities in Ukraine, which has always played an important role in the history of our country. The pride of our University is students, powerful teaching staff and graduates, among them there are a lot of prominent politicians, bankers, public and cultural figures “, – emphasized the Vice-Rector.

The participants of the visiting session of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on financial policy and banking were welcomed by Lviv’s Mayor Andriy Sadovyi. Andriy Ivanovych highlighted that Lviv is a unique place for thinking, with no capital noise, where the atmosphere inspires to produce ideas. Therefore, the Mayor wished everyone productive work and a good stay in Lviv.

During the opening session of the Committee setting, its chairman Serhiy Rybalka said that Galicia has a long history of successful credit unions.

“Now Lviv Region ranks the 1-st place in the number of members of credit unions and the 3-rd – in terms of credit unions assets. However, the region has the potential to become the absolute leader in the context of credit cooperation “- says Serhiy Rybalka.

The participants of the above-mentioned Committee discussed the need for legislative changes related to the reform and development of a national system of credit cooperation, its role in the economy and society, and described the positive examples of Lviv’s credit unions.
