RECTOR VOLODYMYR MELNYK MET WITH THE CHAIRMAN OF THE SPECIAL MONITORING MISSION OF THE OSCE IN UKRAINE ERTUĞRUL APAKAN

The Chairman and representatives of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Ukraine visited Ivan Franko National University of Lviv on September 11, 2017.

During the meeting with the Rector of the University, Professor Volodymyr Melnyk, the Chairman of the OSCE SMM in Ukraine, Ertuğrul Apakan spoke about the main directions of the Monitoring Mission and emphasized the important role of Lviv in the entire social and political life of Ukraine.

“I know that your University is one of the oldest in Ukraine, it is well structured and works well. Thank you for your willingness to cooperate. For me, Lviv is the embodiment of the intellectual and cultural center of Ukraine. Many events that take place here extend to the whole of Ukraine”, said Ertuğrul Apakan.

Also, the Chairman of the OSCE SMM in Ukraine stressed that for the world community it is important for peace in Ukraine to reign. That is why the Special Monitoring Mission will continue to develop its activities in the territory of our state.

Rector Volodymyr Melnyk thanked the Ambassador for appreciating Lviv as an intellectual center and expressed his hope for a joint work aimed at conveying the truth about the events in Ukraine.

“Your positive experience in resolving military conflicts is something that can help Ukraine. Our state has suffered aggression on the part of Russia, and therefore we appreciate your efforts aimed at resolving the situation in Ukraine”, said Volodymyr Melnyk.
