Scientists, lawyers and judges from Ukraine and Poland discussed topical issues of business regulation in Lviv University

Ukrainian and Polish scientists, leading lawyers, judges and students took part in the International Conference “Actual Problems of Regulation of Business: Theory and Practice of EU Law and National Law in Ukraine and Poland” held on December 16, 2016 at the Faculty of International Relations Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

“The wealth of the state, attracting investments is a sector that will contribute not only to the prosperity of the state and the end of the war, but also help achieve the social level worth of Ukrainians,” said during the conference Head of the Department of European Law, Vice Dean of the Faculty of International Relations of thre University professor Michael Mykiyevych.

According to the scientist, the economic vector of Ukraine’s European integration is crucial for the further development of our country. Michael Mykiyevych stressed that owing to the efforts of Ukrainian diplomats this process was intensified while convincing the leadership of the Netherlands to name their terms on the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

“Now the Netherlands agree to support the European integration of Ukraine on specific conditions. These conditions are quite simple: first, not to provide Ukraine the status of candidate country for EU membership, secondly, no military aid from the European Union and third, Ukrainian should not reside permanently in the EU (actually, this was not provided by the agreement),” said Michael Mykiyevych.

Vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work and international cooperation Maria Zubrytska stressed the relevance of the event, which is dedicated to “regulation and support of business development in Ukraine taking into account the Polish experience and harmonization of national and European legislation.”

“Together with our colleagues in Europe, we need to find own resources for Ukraine to become a part of the European Union. Actualizing current issues, particularly in business and law, you are making a significant investment in the process of improvement of Ukrainian state”, says Maria Oleksiyivna.

Conference participants were also welcomed by the representative of the Council of Advocates in Lviv region Anna-Mariana Sydorovych and Doctor of Laws, Judge of the Supreme Economic Court of Ukraine, Head of the Chair of General Law of the Institute of Management and Law of Yaroslav the Wise National University of Law professor Borys Polyakov.

During the conference the participants considered new business opportunities in the context of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, reviewed the prospects of attracting international funds and donors to enhance business issues and application of the law involving a foreign entity in the commercial proceedings. Also of scientific interest for scholars and lawyers practitioners were problems of legal status of the secured creditor bank in bankruptcy under the laws of Ukraine, FAQs of judicial practice of competition law in Ukraine (in comparative terms with EU law) and other important issues facing our state towards the improvement of the legal system of Ukraine.

Delegates from Poland spoke about the peculiarities of business regulation in legislation of their state and the European Union.

The event was organized by the Faculty of International Relations of the Lviv University in cooperation with the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Institute of Management and Law, Yaroslav the Wise National Law University, the Department of International Technical Assistance and International Cooperation of Lviv Regional State Administration, the Council of Advocates in Lviv region, Law Office “Tomasik, Pakosyevich, Greuel, Lawyers and Legal Advisors” (Poland) and Ehrlich Institute of European Development.
