THE 8TH UKRAINIAN-POLISH HISTORICAL AND PEDAGOGICAL CONFERENCE

On October 20-21, 2017, the 8th Ukrainian-Polish Historical and Pedagogical Conference “Development of Ukrainian and Polish Education and Pedagogical Thought (19th-21st century)” took place at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The event was organized by the Department of General and Social Pedagogy of the Faculty of Pedagogical Education. The topic of this year’s conference was “Women’s Education in Ukraine and Poland (19th – early 21st century)”.

The conference was attended by representatives of various scientific institutions of Ukraine and Poland. It was an honor for the organizers to welcome foreign delegations from Wroclaw University, Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Pedagogical University of Cracow named after the Commission of National Education, University of Rzeszów, Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, Janusz Korczak Pedagogical University in Warsaw, Jan Wyzykowski University in Polkowice. The Ukrainian academia was represented by scientists from the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, Khmelnytskyi Humanitarian Pedagogical Academy, A.S. Makarenko State Pedagogical University of Sumy, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Ternopil National Economic University, Lviv National Academy of Arts, Lviv State University of Life Safety and other higher educational establishments.

The conference was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Pedagogical Education Dmytro Hertsiuk, who pointed out that “this is already the eighth scientific conference, and therefore, the format of such meetings, launched by the teachers of Lviv and Wroclaw universities in 2009, devoted to the problems of the development of Ukrainian and Polish education and pedagogical thought has its academic audience and, undoubtedly, contributes to an active Ukrainian-Polish dialogue and development of good neighborly relations.”

The Vice-Rector for Research and Teaching, Professor Yaroslav Harasym in his speech welcomed the participants and singled out an active participation of Polish scholars in this conference. He emphasized the relevance of the topics of the 8th Ukrainian-Polish Conference, outlined women’s mission in the development of education, significant transformations in the public awareness of the role of women in society over the last years, and also wished the participants a fruitful discussion, pleasant impressions of staying at Lviv University and the city of Lviv.

The scientific foundation of a productive dialogue in the Ukrainian-Polish conference was laid by the professor of the Department of Psychology at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv N. Hapon, who in her report from various perspectives outlined the prospects of developing the potential of women in Ukrainian education.

The achievements of scientific research in the history of education of Ukrainian women in the context of the socio-cultural development of Galicia in the late 19th century – early 20th century were outlined by O. Malanchuk-Rybak, Z. Nahachevska, N. Mysak, I. Rovenchak, R. Zharkova, etc.

The participants of the conference had an opportunity to get acquainted with various aspects of education, professional and pedagogical training of women of different age in Poland, which were presented in the reports by D. Kukla, I. Kraseyko, B. Jedrychowska, P. Goldyn, P. Zelinski, E. Kula, J. Truszkowska, M. Stawiak-Ososińska, E. Barnaś-Baran, M. Kawinska, J. Szablicka-Żak, J. Lewicka-Burek, B. Czerwińska-Guż.

An unconventional speech was made by M. Yavorskyi, Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Non-Governmental Organization “Boikivshchyna of the 21st Century”, who presented video materials on the participation of women of Boykivskyi region in cultural and educational projects of the organization.

The participants of the conference visited the Museum of University History to get acquainted with the places of interest in Lviv.

The 8th Ukrainian-Polish Conference was held in an atmosphere of fruitful cooperation, constructive dialogue and mutual exchange of scientific achievements of the researchers and teachers of Ukraine and Poland.
