The meeting of the Association Committee between Ukraine and the EU took place in Lviv University

On September 17, 2018, a joint meeting of the Committee on Association between Ukraine and the European Union took place in the Mirror Hall of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. This is the eighth session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deputies and colleagues from the European Parliament whose purpose is to discuss key aspects of the implementation of the Association Agreement, economic and social problems on the path to European integration, issues of intergovernmental governance, border cooperation and international assistance to Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.

The Association Committee between Ukraine and the EU met with the Committee on European Integration of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The co-chairmen of the Association Committee – Mykola Knyazhitsky from the Ukrainian side and Dariusz Rosati from the European Union took part in the meeting as well as the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko, deputies of the European Parliament, people’s deputies of Ukraine, scholars.

The initiator of the joint event in Lviv was the people’s deputy of Ukraine Oksana Yurinets, who represents the Lviv majority district. According to her, it is very important that the meeting took place precisely in Lviv, the region that leads the number of borrowed funds from the EU to implement projects on cross-border cooperation. As a result, European colleagues were able to directly get acquainted with the main achievements that Ukraine and the EU managed to achieve, as well as to hear firsthand the importance of intensive international cooperation with the European Union for our country.

“It is important that since the last meeting we have new results of the implementation of reforms in Ukraine. The united territorial communities, which are larger, are the legislation that we are changing in line with the European one. Here I can cite the example of the common project with our colleagues Bill №6085 on transfrontier co-operation. It is also important that in Lviv we sat down at a roundtable with national minorities. Deputies from the European Parliament were able to frankly discuss with them the painful issues. Among them is linguistic “, – said Oksana Yurinets.

Co-chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Ukraine EU Dariusz Rosati, speaking about the purpose of the meeting, also noted the significant progress in the process of reforming certain spheres of life in Ukraine.

“Our task, being here, is to look at how an association agreement is being implemented. And I have to admit that we see significant progress in implementing some of the recommendations. Your success in the implementation of the reforms is impressive. In addition, it’s a pleasure to feel the pro-European mood. Obviously, you understand the benefits of cooperation with the EU and opportunities for such cooperation for your country”, – said Dariusz Rosati.
