Within his working visit to Lviv the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi visited the University on April 20, 2017. During the meeting with the Rector, Professor Volodymyr Melnyk the Japanese diplomat marked the significant role of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in the process of learning the Japanese language and culture in Ukraine. Shigeki Sumi also expressed the support for our country noting that Ukraine and Japan were united by common challenges on the geopolitical arena and on the way to the solution of ecological problems.
The Rector Volodymyr Melnyk emphasized that Lviv University actively cooperated with higher educational establishments of Japan. In particular, the representatives of the Hiroshima Institute of Technology initiated the cooperation with the department of genetics and biotechnology of the faculty of biology of the University last year. In addition, the academic partners of Lviv university were the Suzuki International University and Yamaguchi University. Subsequently, according to Volodymyr Petrovych, the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv would develop and strengthen ties with the scientific institutions of Japan.
The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Shigeki Sumi declared his readiness to promote the cooperation of the Embassy of Japan with Lviv university as well as he invited the representatives of the academic community to accede to numerous events within the Year of Japan in Ukraine
