In the framework of participating in the Ninth Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland held on December 3, 2016 in the Mirror Hall of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, the Co-Chairs of the Assembly – the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Ryszard Terlecki and the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oksana Syroid – met with the Rector of the University, Professor Volodymyr Melnyk.
During the meeting the importance of strengthening the Ukrainian and Polish cooperation on the academic, social and political level was discussed.
In particular, the Rector Volodymyr Melnyk noted that Lviv university was actively cooperating with seventeen Polish higher educational establishments implementing joint scientific researches and introducing the practice of students’ academic mobility. According to Volodymyr Petrovych, the model of the educational and scientific cooperation used by the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in its work is a good example of implementing the idea of the intercultural dialogue and integration of Ukraine into European structures.
The Deputy Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Ryszard Terlecki expressed his interest in the academic environment of Lviv and thanked for the opportunity to visit Lviv University.
The Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oksana Syroid noted that the Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Ukraine and Poland at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv is a great opportunity to work out constructive suggestions and concrete steps of common actions at the place which is of great importance for both states.
The Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi, the Deputy Mayor Andriy Moskalenko and the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lviv Wieslaw Mazur also participated in the meeting.
