The University launched cooperation with the Foundation for Local Democracy

Lviv University and the Polish Foundation for Local Democracy will develop the cooperation to achieve the initiatives of self-government in Ukraine. The letter of intentions was signed by Maria Zubrytska (the Vice Rector for International Cooperation of  Ivan Franko LNU) and Yerzy Stempen (president of Local Democracy) during an official meeting held December 6, 2016. The Initiator of signing the documents is professor Markiyan Malskyi, the Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine.

In particular, the Letter of Intentions provides joint support of community development, sharing of experience of the European Union in Ukraine in the field of self-government as well as training of the specialists for the authorities of self-government in Ukraine.

The cooperation between the parties will lie in implementation of joint research projects, conferences and seminars organization and some publication of issues of local government. In addition, Lviv University and the Foundation for Local Democracy are planning to prepare educational software textbooks for higher educational institutions on that problem.

Training and specialized seminars, consultation of local authorities – another priority of the joint implementation of plans aimed at developing self-government in Ukraine.

During the meeting, Jerzy Stepien underlined his readiness to share Polish experience with Ukrainian partners on performing reforms and best practices in government. According to the President of the Fund, which is one of the organizers of the local government reform in Poland, Lviv University can take a leading role in training a new generation of professionals for local self-government in Ukraine.

Maria Zubrytska, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at LNU, thanked for the support of educational initiatives of the University and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
