Information on the thesis

The dissertation reveals the essence of the world market and genetically modified products, scientific views and interpretations of concepts related to the investigated issues are systematized, recommendations for improving the definition of these concepts are provided, division of factors influencing the mechanisms of the world market of genetically modified products are developed (they are divided into environmental factors, associated with the development of the world economy, and factors of internal environment), subjects which influence the formation of the world market of genetically modified foods are singled, state regulation and prospects for the use of modern biotechnology in the economy of Ukraine are analyzed and its shortcomings and basic problems are identified. The development of the world market of genetically modified foods under conditions of globa­liza­tion and the economic aspects of the production of genetically modified products in developed countries and developing countries are illustrated. Empirical research and evaluation of the impact of the production of genetically modified foods on key macroeconomic indicators on the example of the leading countries-producers of genetically modified products are done. Recommendations for improvement of economic mechanism of regulating the market of genetically modified products in Ukraine are submitted. Possible strategies for the use of production capacity and benefits of producing genetically modified products are defined and the oppor­tunities of using of domestic productive capacity in the production of genetically modified foods are proved.

The aim of the research is to identify the characteristics of the formation of the world market of genetically modified foods and to analyze the importance of agriculture to the modern world economy, to research the major problems associated with the using of genetically modified organisms in the production of food products, to define the role of Ukraine in the world market of these products. The aim of the study caused the delineation of tasks: to find out the essence of the term “genetically modified organism”; to reveal the meaning of “genetically modified food”; to analyze the theoretical foundations of the global market for genetically modified products; to ascertain the economic aspects of the production of genetically modified products in developed countries and developing countries; to define the features of the world trade of food products made from biotechnology; to systematize factors which in­fluence the mechanisms of the world market of genetically modified foods; to simu­late the impact of the production of genetically modified foods on key macro­eco­nomic indicators and economic growth of the country; to find out the specifics of sta­te regulation of production of genetically modified food in the world and in Ukraine.

Object of the research is a global market of genetically modified foods. The subject of the research is theoretical principles and mechanisms of regulation of foreign trade of genetically modified food, including Ukraine, with a view to ensuring its national interests.

The most essential research results that describe the novelty of the research and the contribution of the author are: for the first time: is formulated the definition of genetically modified organism as any living organism of plant or animal origin, in whose gene is artificially placed gen of another organism; is defined genetically modified products as food products produced by modern biotechnology, as the result of which the genome of a living organism has been modified to improve its quality characteristics; is shown the economic impact of the production of genetically modified organisms on economic growth in Ukraine; are improved: classification of scientific factors which affect the operation mechanism of the world market of genetically modified products; systematization of causality between economic growth and the production of genetically modified products; theoretical study of the effects of the production of genetically modified products on the development of the world market; are acquired for further development: recommendations to ensure the effectiveness of state regulation of genetically modified products in Ukraine; sys­te­ma­tization of factors affecting the operation mechanism of the world market of gene­ti­cally modified products; statistical-analytical research of the impact of the pro­duction of genetically modified products on the key macroeconomic indicators of the country (foreign trade, economic growth, social and economic development, etc.).
