Information on the thesis

On the ground of published researches and archival materials, periodicals,
memoirs, national and foreign historiography, the public, military, scientific and
pedagogic activityof Olena Stepaniv is highlighted in the thesis research. It is shown
the formation of social and political worldview of heroic figure at the time of main
landmarks of national history of Galicia at the beginning of XX century, namely it
is shown her study at pedagogic seminary and Lviv university and it is determined
the impact of her teachers – S. Rudnytskyi, M. Hrushevskyi and others; it is
analysed the participation of O. Stepaniv in feminist movement of Galicia and
work in public structures.
As a separate direction of the research it is reviewed the participation of O.
Stepaniv in paramilitary structures – Ukrainian sich riflemen – and her participation in
military operation at the beginning period of First World War – battle near Komarnyk,
on Mount Makivka, near Bolekhiv, where the heroine was taken captive. Stay of O.
Stepaniv in Russian captivity in Tashkent and return to Galicia through Finland is
reviewed through her participation in national and liberating move and revolutionary
processes; plots related to Ukrainian revolution and stay in interwar Poland end the
highlighting of public activity of the heroine.
In the work it is studied the pedagogic and scientific activity of O.Stepaniv
during Second Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, period of Second World War
and work of soviet pedagogic and scientific institution; it is determined conceptual
principles of scientific work and shown main directions of social and political
activity in her scientific workout. It is indicated that under the conditions of
totalitarian system possibilities for development of new scientific directions were
limited; soviet regime was intentionally eliminating O. Stepaniv from pedagogic
and scientific activity: at the beginning creating of the administrative and
organizational obstacles, and later eliminating her social and political activity
through imprisonment in Stalin’s cages.
