Social Responsibility of Business: the Essence, Tendencies and Problems of Development in Ukraine

Annotation

The thesis is devoted to the definition of essence, peculiarities of formation and strategies of development of social responsibility of business in Ukraine. CSR is seen as a social phenomenon, which expresses the level of social interaction and integration development, serves as an indicator of implementation the principles of sustainable development and a practical mechanism for solving the socio-economic problems of the society.

In the dissertation it was emphasized that the social responsibility of business has both a subjective and objective origin, that made it possible for the first time to carry out the selection and classification of the most common determinants of social responsibility of business, which are divided into: endogenous (psychological) and exogenous (social), and it is basic on different levels of society analysis. Psychological factors are the factors of a subjective nature, which are connected with the acquired experience of an entrepreneur; at the same time, social factors (socio-economic, social-educational, crisis, organizational-managerial and sociocultural) are the elements of the internal and external environment. The author’s conceptualization of social responsibility of business implies that CSR is considered as a phenomenon of social being, which is perceived as an objective reality and, at the same time, is constructed in a result of interaction in everyday life on the basis of the lifeworld of an entrepreneur.

A comprehensive approach to understanding social responsibility of business has allowed improving its functions in different levels of society, where, in addition to the primary ones, great importance is given to secondary functions that have latent character: solidarity, philanthropy, integrative, smoothing and discretionary. Also, the interpretation of the term “social responsibility”, definition of the concept of “social responsibility of business” has been further developed.

Surveys conducted by the author have enabled to improve the typology of forms of social responsibility of business, which is based on the entrepreneurial identification of the boundaries of the voluntariness of implementation of social responsibility. Among the dominant forms of social responsibility of business the following are determined: obligatory / optional (according to the provisions of the law), legal / voluntary (according to the ideas of entrepreneurs). Optional forms are predominantly voluntary, and obligatory ones can be both legal and voluntary.

The analysis of the specifics of the trends in the formation of social responsibility of business in Ukraine, as well as the findings and results obtained during the study, have given the possibility to offer the directions for further development of social responsibility of business in the modern Ukrainian society by the spheres of providing educational activities. Among them the following have been singled out: legal (legislative, institutional), social directions (scientific, educational, informational-enlightenment, socio-economic, socio-political, socio-psychological, socio-cultural, general educational).
