Modern approaches to the definition of revolution are analyzed in scientific thesis.
The changes in the theory of revolution which happened under the influence of new
social events of the end of XX – beginning of XXI centuries, in particular substitution of
big scale revolutions by the light, rapid, and diverse revolutions, were taken into
account.
The modern type of revolutions has been studies based on examples of «Orange
Revolution» and «Revolution of Dignity». Situation in Ukraine on the eve of revolutions
as well as distinctive features of the revolutions and their outcomes have been
characterized. Comparative analysis of political crisis in Ukraine during the revolutions
of modern type of 2004 and 2013 has been done.
There was concluded that both revolutions which happened in Ukraine in 2004
and 2013 should be considered as revolutions. Based on distinctive features they can be
classified, with certain reservations, as «colored revolutions».
