Scientific work

The scientific researches are carried out according to state themes:

1.     "Elaboration of new methods of concentration of toxic substances and their following control in the natural waters". Scientific supervisor is Prof. Ya. Kalychak.

· State workers - 2,

· Compatible workers - 9.

By the theme the following methods were elaborated:

       the concentration of trace quantities of CHCl3, CCl4, Cd, Mn, Pd, Ru, Pt on the Carpathian zeolites with the following gas chromatographic, atomic-absorption, kinetic, chemiluminescent and volt-ammetric methods of the determination;

       high sensitive chemiluminescent methods of determination of Mn, Cu, Ni, N2H4 and NH2OH in waters;

       volt-ammetric methods of determination of some dyes, which have properties of surface-active substances;

       methods of Hg and F- determination in the waters are improved.

All the methods are aprobated on the natural and technological waters.

2.     “Synthesis and studies of crystal and module structures of the ternary compounds transition and rare earth metals with p-elements.” Scientific supervisor is Prof.Dr.Yu.Kuz'ma.

· State workers - 2,

· Compatible workers - 10.

By the theme the following investigations were carried out:

       the interaction of transition and rare earth metals with p-elements (B, P, Al, Ga, As) in 12 ternary systems was investigated;

       isothermal sections of state diagrams of those compounds were constructed for the first time;

       new ternary compounds were synthesed, their crystal structures were investigated;

       specific of components interaction in the investigated systems, interaction between them and related systems, specific of crystal structure of new compounds were observed.

International relations

The department co-operates with the following foreign scientific establishments:

·        Dresden Max-Plank Institute (Germany);

·        University of Rennes (France);

·        University of  Gdansk (Poland);

·        Technical University of Rzeszow (Poland);

·        University of Mining and Metallurgy of Cracov (Poland).

Publications

29 articles and 13 thesis were published in the year 2001. Prof.Dr. Yu.Kuz’ma is a co-author of collective work “The state diagrams of metallic systems”, the publishing of it is finished 2001. The textbook “The Analytical chemistry” for non-chemistry specialization was published (Yu.Kuz’ma, Ya.Lomnytska, N.Chaban are authors of it).

Post-graduate studies.

12 post-graduate students are studying at the department of analytical chemistry.

Student scientific work.

The student scientific group is working at the department of analytical chemistry. 39 students are members of it. They take part in the research programs supervised by the government. In 2001 students published 5 articles and 3 thesis of the conferences as co-authors.
