Another issue of the Visnyk of the Lviv University is dedicated to the centenary of Filaret Kolessa’s expedition to Dnieper Ukraine for recording kobzars’ and lirysts’ repertoire in summer 1908. In the authors’ papers the history and importance of this project have been revealed; the questions of methodology of Ukrainian folklore have been addressed; new tendencies of world folklore studies have been presented. The given issue starts a new category "Documenting of Folklore" which is meant to activate the exchange of ideas in the sphere of archivation of Ukrainian folklore tradition. In the section "Publications" a rare work by Filaret Kolessa "A Survey of Ukrainian Folk Poetry" has been republished.

This volume of “Visnyk Lvivskoho Universytetu” focuses mainly on researching of individual aspects of folkloristic heritage of distinguished Ukrainian scholars of the 19th century Mykola Kostomarov (1817–1885) and Panteleymon Kulish (1819–1897) whose contribution into national spiritual culture is uncommonly weighty. Their folkloristic concepts are analyzed in the context of Ukrainian folklore studies tendencies of the 19th century, particularly in the circle of researches and publications of Waclaw Zales’kyy, Oscar Kol’berg, Olena Pchilka, Kateryna Hrushevs’ka as well as theoretical principles of modern folklore studies.
This collection of researches is designed for scholars, teachers and students of philological departments, school teachers, and everybody interested in folklore.

This volume of "Visnyk Lvivskoho Universytetu" focuses on topical problems of modern folklore studies. The authors of the collection deal with the questions of methodology of Ukrainian folklore. In particular, they outline the problem of national peculiarities of folklore thinking as a system of means which reflect information, and present the most recent dominant tendencies of foreign folklore studies. The volume includes articles covering poetical sense of different folklore genres such as "kolyadkas" (Christmas songs), "shchedrivkas" (Epiphany songs), "hayivkas" (spring songs), wedding songs, funeral laments, songs-chro­nicles, folklore prose, etc. The articles devoted to the history of folklore studies are represented by papers on I.Franko’s views concerning folklore, specific use of folk poetical material by P.Kulish in his epic poem "Ukraine", research work on folklore in Halychyna in the 19th-20th cc., etc. Profound researches and folklore records can be found in the chapters "Materials and Publications" (the excerpts from I. Bidermann’s famous book) and "From the Folklorist’s Notebook" (folklore records of M.Il’nyts’kyy). This volume introduces a new column – "Studies of Young Researchers" (i.e. post-graduate students mainly from the scholarly centres of Western Ukraine) and continues already known ones – "Ethnomusicology", "Reviews", and "Current Events".

This volume of "Visnyk" of the Lviv University focuses on the topic problems of modern folkloristics. The authors of the collection concern the questions of Ukrainian folklore methodology. Specifically they outline the problem of national peculiarities of Ukrainian folklore and present conception field of theoretical folkloristics. The publication consists of articles dealing with poetical substance of different folklore genres (such as kolyadkas, songs of ceremonial rounds, incantations, tales) as well as poetics of Ukrainian ethnoetiquette. There are also some studies on history of folkloristics and folklore-literature interaction published in it. Some interesting researches and folklore records can be found in the chapters "Materials and Publications", "From the Folklorist's Notebook" (folklore records of prof. I.Denysyuk). This is one of the first collected stories volums of the revived in Lviv State University Ukrai-nian Folkloristics Chair which pursues the scientific traditions of academican Filaret Kolessa. Within this volum Ukrainian folklore is studied in theoretical-methodological, historical, and esthetical aspects. The reader will find here interesting studies of relics of antiquity, in particular of such mythological phenomena as Tur (Taurus), Krasna Pani (Beautiful Lady) in contemporary records of the legends, reseach into the history of folkloristics and folklorism, Slavistic contacts of Ukrainian folklor, and a record of a unique in its high poetical level Ukrainian wedding in Brest region.
