It is shown that muscle dipeptide carnosine and Zn-carnosine decreased the concentration of nitrite- and nitrate-iones in rat's brain during their injection before hypoxic hypoxia. This evidence that carnosine and its complex with zinc defend against neurodegenerative action of nitric oxide during its excess formation in hypoxic conditions. We speculate that possible mechanism of dipeptides action is influence on the functioning of nitrite reductase systems or ingibition of NO-syntase part of nitric oxide cycle on account of interaction with heme containing proteines.

Key words: carnosine, Zn- carnosine, nitric oxide, brain, hypoxic hypoxia.
