Given the mathematical description of flavin biosynthesis metabolic system that describe the time evolution of riboflavin metabolism in yeast Pichia guilliermondii. Computer simulation of its allow to define of the most promising targets for genetic manipulation so as to increase the biosynthetic flux. Here is illustrated how numerical optimization methods can be used as a tool for rational metabolic engineering through the analysis of the steady-state behavior of a hypothetical model of the flavin biosynthetic pathway in yeast.

Key words: mathematical model of metabolism, computer simulation, optimization of riboflavin biosynthesis
