MORPHOLOGY AND VASCULAR ANATOMY OF THE FLOWERS MYRTUS COMMUNIS L. AND MYRTUS MACROPHYLLA EHRH. (MYRTACEAE) S. Volgin, A. Stepanova Ivan Franko National University of L'viv, Hrushevskoho st. 4, L'viv 79005, Ukraine, e-mail: biolog@franko.lviv.ua The morphology and vascular anatomy of the flowers Myrtus communis L. and Myrtus macrophylla Ehrh. (Myrtaceae) were studied. The homologies of all parts of the vascular system of the ovary, hypanthium, and gynoecium in the family were determined for the first time. The vascular anatomy confirms the receptacle invagination under the formation of the inferior ovary wall in the Myrtaceae family and does not give any grounds to accept the hypothesis about the stamens splitting during it's phylogeny. The ascending receptacular bundles system in the studied species is differentiated into the system of the ascending bundles in the hypanthium and the infralocular plexus. The carpellar anatomical node is situated near the ovary base and is stretched along the horisontal plane. The structure of the carpel vascular system can be reduced to the type with a dorsal bundle, two ventral and several additional lateral bundles. Key words: Myrtaceae, floral morphology, vascular anatomy, inferior ovary.
