Palinological investigation of two types of past from Upper Dnister plain gives us a possibility to reconstruct the vegetational history of this territory during the atlantic, subboreal, and subatlantic periods of Holocene. It was concluded that forest communities predominated on the plain, but peat bogs existed on the sizeable areas. Approximately 2,800-2,700 years ago and during a time period from 2,000 till 500 years ago, significant deforestation took place. 6,500 years ago arable communities appeared on the Upper Dnister plain, and ruderal alliances with Artemisia, Chenopodiaceae, Urtica already existed a thousand years ago.

       Key words: vegetation, Holocene, palinology
