Changes in the content of phenolic and proline accumulation in maize pl ants roots and shoots under influence of cadmium ions in different concentration (10-8, 10-7, 10-6 M) were investigated. Increase of quantity phenolic compounds, free proline accumulation and percentage of proline to total cont ent of free amino acids under influence of heavy metal ions has been shown. Possible causes of changes above – mentioned index under influence of cadmium ions are discussed.
