The Third International Scientific and Practical Conference “Geotourism: Practice and Experience” started on April 26, 2018, at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.During the next two days, scientists from Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, and Romania will exchange their scientific achievements and practical experience in the field of geology, geography, and tourism, and on the last day of the conference, on April 28, they will go to geotourism excursions.  The co-organizer of this authoritative scientific-practical forum is the Stanislav Pigon State Higher Professional School in Krosno (Poland) and the partner is the Lviv Polytechnic National University.

The practical result of the long-term cooperation of LNU them. Ivan Franko with the Stanislav Pigon State Higher Professional School in Krosno was the creation of a highly popular now point-geoturism route “Geo Carpathians”, which goes from the city of Krosno in Poland through Borislav to Yaremche in Ukraine. The route comprises 28 geo-sites, which are a matter of primary interest to ordinary tourists, as well as to geologist-specialist geologists in rock outcrops, elements of mining infrastructure and geomorphological objects. Twelve of them are located on the territory of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship of the Republic of Poland, sixteen – in the Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions of Ukraine.

These and other achievements of Ukrainian and foreign scholars ware actively discussed at the solemn opening of the conference, which took place in the Assembly Hall of Lviv University. With a salutatory word at the opening of the conference the vice-rector on scientific and pedagogical work and informatization, Vitaliy Kuharsky acted on behalf of   LNU administration team.

In all modesty, I want to note that Lviv and Lviv University are an excellent place to hold this conference. As the University, in particular, its geological faculty, has long-standing and serious scientific schools, and its material base in every way contributes to the productivity of scientific research. In addition, the Lviv region is a part of Ukraine and Eastern Europe, which has recently paid great attention to the development of tourism. And geotourism is the branch of tourism, which can not only provide scientists with positive emotions but also become an additional impetus for thorough geological research “, – said Vitalii Mykhailovych.

Director of the Institute of Geodesy at the National University “Lviv Polytechnic”  Tretiak Kornylii emphasized the numerous research and practical achievements of Lviv geologists in the application of modern technical means to the needs of geotourism.

“The subject of geo-tourism, we must admit, is relatively new to Lviv Polytechnic,” -said  KORNYLII Romanovych, – “but I am sure that cooperation with Ivan Franko Lviv National University with representatives of other scientific institutions of Ukraine and with colleagues from abroad will be useful for us and  will become more productive if we apply modern methods of remote sensing of the environment. Indeed, at the Institute of Geodesy, a network of satellite permanent stations has been set up, which ensures precise positioning within the Lviv region. We use the unmanned aerial vehicles very efficiently for the layout of topographic maps, but one must understand that the creation of geoinformation systems in geotourism is the basis for its development. “

The representative of the organizing committee of the conference, senior research fellow at the Institute of Geology and Geochemistry of Combustible Minerals of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Albertina Buchynska finished The opening ceremony.  She emphasized on a new trend in the tourism industry of Ukraine and the world – science-oriented tourism, for which it is extremely important to attract professional specialists with specialization in a certain sphere of geology or geography. Then Albertina Buchynska familiarized the participants with the rules of work of the conference and opened the plenary part, in which  three solid reports on the importance, prospects and European experience of the geo-tourism industry were given/

The first part of the 3rd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Geotourism: Practice and Experience” culminated in an excursion to the main building of the Lviv University, which was hosted by the Director of the Museum of the History of the University, Yuriy Gudyma. Later, the conference continued at the Faculty of Geology of the Lviv University, where it will continue until April 27.
