The director of the National Library of Belarus, Professor Roman Motulskyi and Mykolai Yatsevich – the Dean of the Faculty of Information and Documentary Communications of Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts visited Lviv University as part of their visit to Lviv region, they met with Marian Lozynskyi (the vice-rector for research and educational work and social issues and development), Roman Krokhmalnyi ( the dean of the Faculty of Culture and Arts and Vasyl Kmet (director of the Scientific library).

The subject of the meeting was to discuss possible prospects of cooperation between scientific and educational institutions of Ukraine and Belarus.

During the dialogue with Belarusian guests Vice Rector Marian Lozynskyi focus his attention on active international activities of University, the successful cooperation with leading universities around the world. Vice Rector hopes to establish productive cooperation with Lviv University and leading centers of Belarusian librarian studies.

Vasily Kmet (director of the Scientific Library of University) told about ancient traditions, richness and uniqueness of the oldest library assets of Ukraine. Vasyl Fedorovych supported Belarusian colleague’s idea “although we do not issue certificates of Harvard or Oxford, nevertheless our library should provide students with information resources similar to those universities”.

University library director said that special attention is paid to the study of manuscripts and early printed books. “There was one of the largest collections of incunabula that existed before the Second World War, but some of them were lost,” – said Vasyl Kmet and presented Belarusian colleagues with collection of incunabula and ex libris.

Being impressed by the unique collection of early printed books, among which there are rare edition of Belarusian landmarks that can be found in the Scientific Library, director of the National Library of Belarus, Professor Roman Motulskyi is convinced that the professional experience of Ukrainian colleagues will strengthen intercultural Ukrainian-Belarusian communication between libraries and the universities of both countries.

Roman Krokhmalnyi and Mykola Yatsevych focused on establishing academic cooperation between Lviv University and Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts.  They discussed possible ways of cooperation, elaborating step-plan for implementing agreements. In particular, they touched upon joint conduct of scientific activities, guest lecturers and academic mobility of students.
