PARTICIPANTS OF JOINT PROGRAM OF LVIV AND WÜRZBURG UNIVERSITIES RECEIVED CERTIFICATES

The Rector of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Professor Volodymyr Melnyk and the President of Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Professor Alfred Forchel awarded certificates to students and graduate students who successfully completed training in Joint International Certification Program “Selected Sections of Computational Mathematics” on June 9, 2017

The Program, which took place for the third time this year, was launched by Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg for the best master students and graduate students of the Faculties of Electronics, Applied Mathematics, Mechanics and Mathematics of Lviv University.

The Rector of the University, Professor Volodymyr Melnyk welcomed participants stressing the importance of cooperation between Lviv and Würzburg Universities to integrate Ukraine into the European research and education community.

“True integration of Ukraine into the EU begins with us, with the values inherent in European society, academic and research institutions. So thank all colleagues who are involved in our Program for the implementation of international scientific standards into Ukrainian intellectual environment. This is the greatest thing we can do for young people who aims to be a Ukrainian Europeans” said the Rector.

The President of Würzburg University Alfred Forchel thanked students and graduate students of Lviv University for the participation in the Program and expressed hope that cooperation between the leading universities of Ukraine and Germany will continue to develop. According to Alfred Forchel, the Joint Certification Program is extremely useful for Ukrainian and German science.

The annual program has been focused on the mathematical foundations of computer science and the following subjects were taught in English within its framework: computational geometry, algorithmic graph theory, computational linguistics, algorithms and data structures in Python, and the stability of great dynamic systems. In addition to these, the Joint Certification Program also included an optional course in German.

To receive the certificate, students passed exams in subjects, two of which were taught by Würzburg University Professors (Alexander Wolff and Sergey Dashkovskiy) and two Professors from Lviv University (Taras Banakh, Oleg Kushnir and Bogdan Hoshko).

This academic year, the Program was attended by 17 students and graduate students of Lviv University and four of them managed to successfully pass all the exams and get certified by Joint International Certification Program “Selected sections of Computational Mathematics”.

Following the awarding ceremony, the participants (students, teachers and coordinators) shared their opinions. In particular, Professor Taras Banakh stressed that participation in the program and the possibility of expanding international cooperation is crucial for Ukrainian science. In addition, the participants pointed out the solidarity of the academic community of Germany in relation to the pressures our country is facing today.

The Vice-Rector for Research, Teaching and International Cooperation Mariya Zubrytska also greeted the participants and urged all of them to actively develop cooperation between Lviv and Würzburg Universities and take up new projects and joint programs.

Let us note that traditionally, the most successful participants will be invited to undergo training in Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg.
