The Director of the Agency of the Ukrainian World Congress in Ukraine Serhiy Kasianchuk visited his Alma Mater

On January 5, 2016 the Director of the Agency of the Ukrainian World Congress Serhiy Kasianchuk visited Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and met with with the Rector Volodymyr Melnyk and the Dean of the faculty of finance and business management Andriy Stasyshyn.

During the meeting the parties discussed different vectors of the cooperation between Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the Agency of the Ukrainian World Congress as well as they outlined the prospects of the future cooperation.

The Rector of the University noted that it was the first time he had accepted the Director of one of the largest Ukrainian communities – the Ukrainian World Congress and on behalf of the University community he expressed his willingness to strengthen the communication in the sphere of education, science and culture among Ukrainians who lived in our state as well as in the Diaspora.

The Director of the Agency of the Ukrainian World Congress in Ukraine Serhiy Kasianchuk told about a new level of the Congress work aimed at establishing a productive dialogue between the Ukrainian Diaspora and Ukraine, an effective cooperation of the world organization with different branches of the state power in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian World Congress is an international coordinating formation of the Ukrainian communities in the Diaspora representing the interests of 20 million Ukrainians. The Congress unites the Ukrainian organizations from 34 countries and maintain contacts with the Ukrainians from 15 countries more.

We should remind that according to the results of full and open competition which included the consideration of more than 70 candidates from 12 world countries the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) appointed Serhiy Kasianchuk from Toronto (Canada) the Director of its Agency in Ukraine.

Serhiy Kasianchuk was born and grew up in Lviv and graduated from Lviv University, specialty “economic cybernetics” and he gained a master’s degree in political science at the Ukrainian Free University in Munich (Germany). He took part in forming and developing Business Support Centre in Lviv (USAID project) and it was very actual for Ukraine at that time in the first years of independence when the transition from state to private business forms, from a command form of economy to a market one took place. In Canada he worked in the sphere of finance as an analyst in Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Credit Union “Buduchnist”.

As a volunteer, Serhiy Kasianchuk has a great experience of work in the Ukrainians organizations on the global and local levels including the Board of Directors of the UWC and the Executive Committee of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC), League of Ukrainian Canadians, Ukrainian Canadian Social Services, Canadian and Ukrainian Immigrant Services and the department of the UCC in Toronto.

Since 2004 Serhiy Kasianchuk has been engaged in organizing observation missions to monitor election processes in Ukraine and he has been an active advocate of Ukrainian citizens’ rights as well as new immigrants outside Ukraine.

In 2009 Serhiy Kasianchuk represented the Ukrainian community of Canada at the parliamentary hearings in Ukraine “Ukrainians abroad: current state and perspectives of cooperation”. In addition, he was a participant of many international conferences and congresses of the Ukrainian Diaspora.

In 2012 Serhiy Kasianchuk was ordained to the office of the deacon of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.
