The development and key aspects of free software were discussed by young and experienced programmers, experts and scholars gathered April 19 in Lviv University to participate in the 6th International Scientific and Practical Conference FOSS LVIV-2016.
“The strong countries today are those that occupy leading positions in the field of science and technology. European path of Ukraine provides our competitiveness in this field, “- said Vice-Rector Professor Roman Hladyshevskyi in his opening address.
Thus, according to the rector, our priority must be full integration into the international scientific and technological space, the use of modern methods and approaches, the ability to embrace new ideas, critical evaluation of popular trends.
“The development of high-quality software in the era of advanced technology is one of the most pressing problems – says Professor Roman Hladyshevskyi. – This conference covers the main aspects of the software – education, science, business and everyday life, because the development of free software product will soon find their consumers”.
Having highlighted that Ukrainian programmers have repeatedly proved their high professional level globally, the vice-rector expressed his hope that soon at Lviv University there will be one of the most powerful centers of software development.
The Dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Computer Technologies, Professor Igor Polovynko called annual international scientific conference FOSS LVIV «Mecca» for scientists and teachers who use free software.
Having emphasized the importance of the use of free software in educational process and scientific work, Professor Igor Polovynko noted that there are many different software products that can be used in education and science, and every day their number is increasing.
According to the Dean, the Faculty of Electronics and Computer technologies have completely switched to free software and the participants can verify it by visiting faculty.
Both software developers and users would prefer expensive brand products of well-known companies, but now the situation in the IT market has changed dramatically, more and more people are using open source software – experts say.
The participants told about their own achievements in the field of free software, its implementation in training purposes, as well as current trends dominating in the field of information technology
VI International scientific and practical conference FOSS LVIV-2016, which involves about 60 specialists in IT technologies from Ukraine and Belarus, will last for two days.
